Tahitian model

10 x 10" Oil

$120. + S/H
Well not certain of her ancestry, but went to the MET
last weekend in NYC and found this detail of
a Gauguin that kind of reminds me of her .The Rembrandt show is on exhibit at the MET
with over 200 paintings from his era including
some outstanding Vemeer's!

No substitute for looking at the REAL THING!

Estuary Reflection

Camera has been repaired, and great to have it back.

would miss writing in their journal.

in June as well.

Mess of Boats

12" x 12" Oil SOLD
My camera is still in the shop, so I am continuing to
post older works. At an August art sale in Maine a couple of years
ago, some parents offered their thirteen year old son a choice
of any painting to commemorate his successful completion
of sailing camp!
He selected this painting as his memento of his summer
and I couldn't have been more pleased.
Nice way to start a youngster as an art collector no?

Moonlight

12" x 24" Oil on board SOLD

Occasionally situations require some photo assistance.
I'm pretty ambiguous on the "ethics" of this.
My latest business card I omitted Plein Air before
Artist...I guess you do what you have to do.
But there certainly is NO substitute for painting
on location. Squinting at a photograph, doesn't get you
the same results. And with the larger studio pieces I
am doing recently, I have the plein air painting
as well as having a monitor with the photograph
on it next to my easel. Life is modern.

High Seas

7" x 9" Oil on wood SOLD

The photo is of the full moon from the porch view.
The ship just came about on a double level as a good idea.
Art is about having fun and taking risks. It's engaging
and transformative.

Pillows ll

12" x 12" Oil

This was the culmination of observing this
interior corner every day. Around 1 o'clock the day
before I first noticed the mullein shadows
coming in when the sun was low enough.
I loved the shadows going across the pillows.
So I resigned I would capture them, but
I had to wait until one o'clock, and reduce the size
of my canvas in the series from 24" x 24" to 12" x 12"
due to the speed required to capture the movement across
the pillows. It was a lucky transition for me, to work
on this series of five paintings- one a day, because
it started off dark and rainy, and lightened up
everyday until there was brilliant light coming in.

The bottom photo is the porch on the other side
of the pillows as it approached dusk.

Pillows l

24" x 24" Oil

The pillows juxtaposed against the ocean
were more interesting to me for painting #4
in a series of 5. It was a fairly bright day too.
(I did one a day for 5 days from the same spot,
though I refocused the scene
each day a bit differently)

Porch lll

24" x 24" Oil

The bed was focus on painting #3 of a series of 5.
(I did one a day for 5 days, from the same spot, though
I refocused the scene each day a bit differently)
The stripes and verticals of the architecture played
nicely with the trees and ocean outside.
The sun began to come out on this day too which
lightened up the room.

Beautifully framed with custom 2" x 1" beveled floating mahogany

Porch ll

24" x 24" Oil
This was painting #2 of a series I began on a rainy day.
I did one a day for 5 days, from the same spot, though
I refocused the scene each day a bit differently.
The one posted yesterday I realized this day,
I didn't need the chair, but the daybed was more interesting.
Also the pattern of the mulleins seemed too distracting
so I wanted to eliminate them and help integrate the view of the ocean.
